Case Studies

In all of the below case studies, diagnosis was by a vet

Chelsea

Chelsea was a 5-year-old female Labrador who was suffering from an anal gland problem. She had suffered on and off with this for about 9 months. The owners had taken her to the vet and had her anal glands drained twice before coming to us.

The vet had told the owners that Chelsea would have to have her anal glands removed if this kept recurring.

Chelsea had a terrible smell due to her anal glands, which was the biggest complaint for the owner.

Chelsea was prescribed a formula to clear damp heat from the liver channel.

Her owners contacted us after a month’s treatment. Chelsea had improved, her anal glands had gone down and the bad smell had vanished. Chelsea also appeared to have more energy and was much calmer. We advised that she continue for another month on the herbs.

We were contacted again by the owner’s 2 months later as Chelsea had her old problem back again. The owners did not continue treatment after we advised them to. So we put her back on the original formula for a month. The owners reported that it had all cleared up again but this time agreed to continue treatment for another 2 months to treat the cause of the problem. As in this case Chelsea had a lot of dampness in the liver channel and an underlying Yin deficiency that needed treating and we felt that we had not cleared out the pathogen completely.

After a further two months of treatment the owners contacted us and reported that Chelsea hadn’t had a recurrence of the problem and was looking very healthy and happy.

Chelsea still hasn’t had a recurrence and did not have to undergo surgery.

This case is a good example to illustrate that if a pathogen is not cleared out of the body 100% it will keep coming back until it is treated.

Faberge

Faberge was a 5-month-old male kitten. His owners were worried about him due to the fact that he had very bad digestive upset. They were certain he was the runt of the litter due to his health and size.

He was constantly hungry and very skinny. We suspected initially that he had worms so suggested some herbal worming herbs. This made a bit of a difference but Faberge still looked very bloated after eating and vomited very often after meal times.

We prescribed a formula to strengthen faberge’s digestive function and remove stomach qi stagnation for a course of treatments as we felt he needed an eating disorder treatment.

Faberge stopped vomiting and his bloating went away. The owners were so happy they continued on the herbs for another month to make sure it did not come back.

Faberge is one year old now and has grown to a normal size. He has never had the vomiting or bloating again and his owners reported that they have also noticed a difference in him emotionally, they believed that for Faberge the digestive formula was a herbal remedy for anxiety!

Misty

Misty was an 18-year-old horse, a gelding that suffered from arthritis. His owners had tried various products but to no avail. Misty had very tender joints and moved very stiffly. He was bad in the morning and when first riding him he was very stiff but became more fluid in movement as he moved up. The owners noticed he got much worse in winter and when it was very wet or humid. He was in good health otherwise but his energy could have been better.

We prescribed a formula to increase Qi and blood circulation as well as tonify the kidneys and clear wind dampness from the body.We suggested that the course of treatment was generally going to be longer due to the fact that it was a chronic condition. We suggested in winter time to keep him very warm and stable him if possible we also suggested taking treatment through the winter months.

After the first month of treatment the owners reported Misty being much easier to ride. He seemed more flexible and less stiff.

After the next two months the owners reported him having much more energy and being much friskier. He seemed to not be in pain and moved beautifully at the pony club.

Misty a year later still has not gone back to being very stiff, lethargic and in pain. His owners keep him on a maintenance formula we prescribed at a low dosage to maintain his perky self!
